| Keep Safe in Under-Staffed Hospital Q. What do you mean by “Keep Safe?”
First, I make sure you don’t fall through the cracks created by the nursing shortage: getting worse with nobody noticing, medication mix-ups, unhygienic practices. Second, I protect you from the occasional unresponsive physician. Third, I warn against, and teach you how to avoid, the dangers inherent in a hospital stay -- from falling off your gurney, to becoming helplessly exposed by your hospital gown, to being injured by flying objects in the MRI suite (I am not making that up.)
Q. So what do you suggest, a Guardian Angel? Or a Personal Physician constantly at my bedside?
The next best thing: a Sentinel: A competent caring adult, with no particular medical training, who is willing and able to learn the Sentinel role and to be at your bedside as close to 24/7 as possible. You provide the Sentinel, I’ll teach the role. |
